Jeff Austin is a modern day legend of the bluegrass world.
A founding member of Yonder Mountain String Band, he has taken his acoustic explorations into uncharted realms since embarking on a solo career in 2014. “I’ve learned a lot from the people I’ve played with,” says Austin who has shared stages with such luminaries as Del McCoury, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, Earle Scruggs, Jon Fishman, and Phil Lesh. When it comes to dynamics and structure, Austin taps the variety of sounds and styles he’s absorbed from theater, jamming, nearly twenty years of performance, and his love of experiencing live music as a fan. It’s that inner concert enthusiast that binds him to his own audience and a powerful exchange between the stage and the crowd.
Considered by many as one of the most deadly mandolinists in the world, his voice is an even more explosive instrument. Whether it’s a cover or an original, every composition is played with the conviction of his final breath. This music is utterly ferocious and one couldn’t ask for a more intimate setting than the Crazy Horse to embrace it’s full impact. As you can imagine, the other three players in this band are giants in their own rite. Remember to breathe as you watch Kyle Tuttle do things with a banjo that ought to be against the law.
