If the Grateful Dead is your religion, then the Crazy Horse is your church when Third Thursday rolls around. Every month Jonny Mojo (Achilles Wheel) and Gary Campus (Deadbeats) host a cast of the finest musicians from around the region to conjure lightning in a bottle. BBD is a gathering point for everyone who wants to plug into the feeling of what it was like going to a Dead show. The music that bubbles forth from these nights captures the spontaneous, primal, orgasmic spirit that so many of us crave. Jonny is a proverbial pied-piper who guides the flock to the promised land with his incredibly versatile guitar playing and passion for the music coursing through his veins.
We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Kyle Ledson (Broken Compass Bluegrass) back to the Crazy Horse stage for the first time in too long. This virtuoso guitarist/mandolinist is evolving at a rate similar to Neo in The Matrix. On this occasion he’ll be playing mostly electric as you might have seen him do with his band Cosmic Frog. There could be a foray or two into the acoustic realms. We’ll see…Kyle has a strong inclination to light a fire under all the other musicians in his proximity and that’s exactly what we expect here.
How do you feel about Jesse Jennings (Jambassadaors, Moody Cat)? Just the mention of his name sends a shiver down our spine; In a good way of course. We can see him now, peaking out from his keyboard bunker, radiating the most subtle, mischievous smirk as he conducts ESP with his bandmates. Exciting things happen when this man is in the picture. He’s never content to settle for the easy route and improvisation is wired into his DNA.
Justin Purtill (Stu Allen) is a flat-out musical genius. Sorry if this were to make him blush, but it’s true. It’s one thing to graduate from Berklee; it’s another to have an insatiable appetite for creation. Everything he does is oozing with soul. Riding the bass, he has the kind of innate bouncy groove that made Phil the god he was. Grateful Dead music is all about dancing, so it’s nice to know that everything’s going to be ultra funky and jazzy when Justin is driving the ship.
