Steely Dead

Sunday, December 10 / 9:00 pm-12:00 am

/ $20

In over ten years of hosting shows here at the Crazy Horse, we can only think of TWO times bands have ever played songs by Steely Dan. Why is that? Because it’s REALLY HARD to do and bands understand that you don’t even bother touching this material unless you’re up to the challenge. Hailing from the vibrant music scene of Denver, Steely Dead is a national touring act that not only crushes Steely Dan, but takes it even further by melding their catalog with the sacred cannon of the Grateful Dead. It’s almost too good to be true.

Driven by four exceptionally talented musicians – Dave Abear on gutar, Matt Abear on bass, Chris Sheldon on drums and Dylan Teifer on keys – Steely Dead has gained a dedicated following around the country with their electrifying, groove-laden performances and mesmerizing interpretations of some of the best songs ever written. Seeing them do their thing at the most legendary intimate venue in Nor Cal will be the kind of event to instantly go down in history.

Steely Dead’s repertoire is a carefully crafted fusion of Grateful Dead and Steely Dan songs. When it comes to the Dan, they beautifully reflect the precision, soulfulness and masterful arrangements which made them gods of both the studio and stage. Imagine that cross-pollinated with the Dead’s free-flowing, melodic improvisation and otherworldly song segues. Steely Dead manages to crystallize all these concepts together while creating something strikingly original. This is far more than a nostalgic ride through the golden era of rock ‘n roll. It’s an interstellar journey through realms both warmly familiar and enticingly exotic.
