If you know anything about us at the Crazy Horse, you know that we’re all about establishing and carrying on traditions. We especially love it when those traditions include celebrating one of the most cherished members of our team. The passion Tim High brings to his role of achieving some of the best small venue sound in the country is nothing short of remarkable. Touring artists frequently marvel upon our sound. Tim never is one to rest on his laurels; constantly striving to improve the experience here for bands and audience members alike.
While Tim enjoys running sound, most of you know by now that singing, playing guitar and leading a band are by far his favorite pursuits. Every Third Thursday you can see him here, belting out a wide array of Dead and Jerry tunes with Band Beyond Description. His Truckee-based band – Tim High & the Mighty – has been gaining more recognition with their unabashed, classic rock stylings. They bring audiences of all ages together in their appreciation for the songs that make up the fabric of our very existence.
Tim’s birthday falls smack dab on Halloween and we are honored to give him the stage on this occasion. Tim puts his heart and soul into constructing a very special night of music to appeal to the masses. Just like we did last year, this will be an early show, starting at 7pm and ending at 10pm. That means that all ages are welcome until 9pm! Every year, Tim and the band pay tribute to the most epic songs from a certain year. This time they’re going with 1971. Think of all the possibilities from legendary albums released that year including Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers, Led Zeppelin IV, Allman Brothers Band At Fillmore East, David Bowie Hunky Dory and Pink Floyd Meddle, just to name a few.
As if that wasn’t sexy enough, Tim and the gang will be kicking things off with a set exclusively dedicated to the music of The Doors. This is something we’ve been craving here for a while and we couldn’t be more excited to see this band rise to the occasion to deliver the goods. We’ve often seen Tim do a wicked cover of “Roadhouse Blues,” but it will be an adventure to see him channel the ultimate Jim Morrison vibe as they bring a spectrum of Doors songs into the light.
In addition to the regular members of The Mighty which are John “Morty” Morton on thunderous bass and Tim Stiletto (yes, that’s his real name) on fiery drums, Tim has invited a pair of his most talented friends to round out the lineup. The ginger Viking pirate himself, Jonny Mr. Mojo Rising (Achilles Wheel, Band Beyond Description), will be swashbuckling through the mix with revelational, life-altering guitar licks around every curve. Sprinkling sonic epiphanies through the soundscape will be Ryan Taylor – the keyboard wizard from the acclaimed Lake Tahoe band, Mescalito. We know Halloween is an action-packed holiday in Nevada City, but for hardcore live music fans, there’s no other place you would want to be. Keep in mind too that as soon as this show ends, we’ll be diving right into a marathon DJ performance with Neptune.
